A Letter from our PTA Co-Presidents

Dear New Prospect Families

Wow!  What an exciting, fun, and busy first semester New Prospect had!  A sincere thank you goes out to all of our volunteers for their hard work in making all the fall semester activities run so smoothly.

This year we held our second annual “Hands on New Prospect” in September.  The grounds of the school look wonderful thanks to the efforts of many parent and student volunteers.  One of the highlights of the semester was the “11-11, Make a Wish” Gala. Attendees helped raise nearly $20,000 towards school improvements! Thank you to Gala Committee Chairs Catherine McKemie and Maria Elena Casey and everyone who worked on the committee. It was truly a fabulous event.

In school, our kids participated in Red Ribbon Week. Not only did they hear positive messages about living a drug-free life, but they also had the chance to hear inspirational messages from two former members of the “Harlem Globetrotter” as special guest speakers.  The children were also able to showcase their talents in the Reflections Arts Program, learn about famous artists during ‘Meet the Masters’, and expand their home libraries at the Media Center’s Book Fair.   The children also participated in ‘Panther Pete’s Science Lab, which is entirely funded by the PTA and staffed with parent volunteers. Thank you to Science Lab Coordinator Liz Ward who has put in countless hours to ensure that each lab runs smoothly!

We also enjoyed Spirit Nights at Chick-Fil-A, Barnes & Noble, Jason’s Deli, Bruster’s, and Rosa’s Pizza.  We look forward to more Spirit Nights this spring.

Spring semester promises to be just as busy and exciting as the fall.  Snowflakes and Hotcakes, along with our popular Theme Basket raffle, will be held on Saturday, February 4th.  The production of our 4th and 5th grade play Dreamweaver will be held on Friday, February 10th and Saturday, February 11th.  The performances will be held at the Alpharetta High School.  One of the highlights for the spring semester will be our Fun Run that will be held in March. We also have more cultural arts programs, the Spring Teacher Appreciation luncheon, the Spring Book Fair, and will wrap up the year with the 5th Grade Farewell.

Spring semester also means we must start looking forward to next year as well.  If you would like to become more involved in the PTA, please contact us or one of our other board members.  There are great opportunities to fit all schedules, backgrounds, and needs.

On behalf of the PTA, we would like to extend our most sincere congratulations and best wishes to Ms. Faulkner as she begins her retirement.   Not only has she been a consistent and positive advocate for our children, she has always been an enthusiastic supporter of the PTA. We will miss her!

Enjoy the remainder of the 2011-2012 school year!

Sincerely,
Jenny Idichandy & Lisa Oxman
PTA Co-Presidents
