Happy Earth Day!
Earth Day falls on Thursday, April 22, 2010 and it’s the 40th Anniversary of the holiday.
It’s a great time to learn about our planet and how to take care of it! Learn about how you can encourage your kids to go green during Earth Day.
A Letter from our PTA Co-Presidents
Wow! What an exciting and busy first semester New Prospect had! A sincere thank you goes out to all of our volunteers for their hard work in making all the fall semester activities run so smoothly.
This year we held BINGO night in October, and fun was had by all. In school, our children enjoyed Red Ribbon Week, The Peachtree Brass cultural arts program, Reflections, Meet the Masters, and the media center’s Book Fair that our PTA volunteers staffed! Our business alliance family nights have been quite successful and well attended. We’ve made Chick-Fil-A burst at the seams with the number of families and teachers who’ve come and with the voices of our wonderful chorus for entertainment. Our first ever joint Barnes and Noble and Jason’s Deli family night was a huge success, and we’re looking forward to doing it again in time to stock up for summer reading! We’ve also enjoyed Bruster’s and Dominos nights as well. We hope our faculty and staff enjoyed the fall luncheon in their honor and are looking forward to their big week of appreciation coming up in February.
One of the highlights from the fall semester was our Boosterthon Fun Run. On an absolutely beautiful day in November our students ran a total of 21,000 laps, received pledges from all 50 states (and thus were joined by Ms. Faulkner dressed as a hot dog and Mr. Maroney dressed as a bottle of ketchup!), and brought in over $20,000 to fund individual classrooms as well as PTA activities…most notably the creation of a science lab!
Spring semester promises to be just as busy and exciting as the Fall. Snowflakes and Hotcakes, along with our theme basket raffle, will be held on Saturday, February 6th. The production of our 4th and 5th grade play Once Upon a Typewriter will be held on Friday, February 26th and Saturday, February 27th. We also have more cultural arts programs, additional family events at Chick-Fil-A, Bruster’s, Barnes and Noble, Jason’s, the Spring Teacher Appreciation luncheon, and we wrap up the year with the 5th Grade Farewell.
Spring semester also means we must start looking forward to next year as well. If you would like to become more involved in the PTA, please contact us or one of our other board members. There are great opportunities to fit all schedules, backgrounds, and needs.
Keep checking this website and look for flyers and monthly calendars that will detail all future events for the remainder of the year. As always, feel free to contact us with any questions, concerns, or comments.
Enjoy the remainder of the 2009-2010 school year!
Sincerely,
Karen Kirby & Kim Tobin
PTA Co-Presidents
